Northern elders, under the aegis of Concerned
Northern Consultative Assembly, have thrown their weight behind calls for
investigation of House Representatives members allegedly involved in 2016
budget padding.
In a communique, which was signed by its
National Coordinator and former acting Chairman, Federal Character Commission,
Alhaji Muhammadu Ari Gwaskaand, said the present administration had been very
passionate fighting corruption.
He said the legislature has culture of budget
paddings, stressing, those involved must not be spared this time by
anti-corruption agencies.
According to the statement,
“The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and other
anti-corruption organs have capacity to tackle and go the whole hug in
unveiling those perpetrators.
“The anti-corruption agencies have been revitalized and made more
credible and their actions may be misunderstood, but, the country will be
better off with time, believing that they have capacity to handle the
situation.
“Nigerians were mindful also, of government’s determination to
decisively tackle the ailing economy, to bring it to life with the ultimate aim
of creating jobs to eliminate unemployment and poverty, and that can only be
achieved in a corrupt free system”.
